SIGNIFICANCE OF MALAWI-ISRAEL LABOUR EXPORT DEAL

In April 2024, the Malawian government & Israel government signed the labour export deal which was expected since November 2023, the minister of information & digitalization Moses Kunkuyu & also minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo held the joint press briefing in Lilongwe to update the public on the Malawi delegation’s trip to Israel in April 2023,where Malawi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Israel for the temporary employment of Malawians who by then have already started working in agricultural sector in Israel. The deal which was signed in Tel Aviv, mostly focuses on youths to take part & the beneficiaries were estimated to be 5 000 people and by December 25 2023, Malawian government had already sent 600 youths to Israel to work in the farms. These Malawians will be working in big farms for the period of 5 years & then return home. HUAWEI'S TRAINING PROGRAM CONTRIBUTE TO MALAWI'S DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

The Chinese tech giant has been running program in Malawi called the Seeds for The Future, they have been offering ICT training to the University students in Malawi & other countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda & other countries since 2016. COMPARISON OF CROP ESTIMATES FROM 2022 TO 2024 IN MALAWI

Malawi Government under the Ministry of Agriculture each & every year releases the crop estimates of Maize production during the farming season so that the country can have a picture on how much will be harvested. Sometimes the estimates did not depict true reflection of what is on the ground. In the year 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture released a crop estimate report which indicated that the country was expected to produce 3.8 million metric tones of maize out of its required 3.3 million metric tones representing a 0.5 million metric tones surplus. But according to an agricultural expert Tamani Nkhono Mvula, there is need for an improvement in the way the country conducts its agriculture production estimation survey claiming that the findings does not give a true picture of what is on the ground or at household level.
